You may have to seal it after with some chalk pastel seal, Hairspray is also known to seal on powders
From somebody who does a lot of model making this is the correct way to achieve the dust look, instead of powdered paint i would use Tamiyas weathering chalk/pastel type kit or just some artists pastals (the dry ones) you may need to give the areas you want to do a slight roughing up with sandpaper or matt varnish so the dust/pastal finds some purchase. Then some clear gloss coat/laquer from a distance to seal it in.

Yeah Beef, I used tamiya color in some places. Another thing you can use in its own way is paint thinner.

Re: Anybody Got/Know A Weathering Guide?
Well first attempt is in! :D
I'm quite happy with it! Going for a fairly subtle(ish) look of used, but not a wreck.
I'll probably give it another wire wool session some point, and ofcourse it will naturally reduce in the high wear areas anyway.
What you think?!

Re: Anybody Got/Know A Weathering Guide?
Looks pretty darn good. Nice one. I'd say it could be a little more gradual between the tan and black to give it a dustier look. Just ever so slightly.

Re: Anybody Got/Know A Weathering Guide?
Neither, that is good old Krylon "Sand".
Will try to get some "natural light" pictures tomorrow, the different between the sand and black is not quite so stark as it looks in the pictures.
Although I might give the whole thing one sweep from couple foot away, soften up the different a little.

Re: Anybody Got/Know A Weathering Guide?
try using nail polish remover on a rag when you go over it again as it smudges it and gives it that dusty look instead of clean black and "sand" just in the corners
