TM/Guarder P226 Consider replacing the hogue grips with Silverbacks, or potentially the originals if I can find any for sale.

Does anyone know why all 226s are marked as stainless even if they are the black version?

Because stainless steel isn't a colour, it is a type of steel. Stainless steel is resistant to rust and other corrosion due to it's chromium content, which is what makes it shiny. If finished and polished it can be very shiny, as you see on stainless steel cutlery, although some of that has coatings.

Black P226's are I guess just as stainless as the silver finished versions, just with a further finish applied to add a matt black coating. Wouldn't know exactly what finish, although I imagine it would involve oxide layers rather than paint on the real thing.

Yeah but they don't say stainless on the real steel. That's why I was wondering why they are all marked as stainless.

Trade marks maybe, I've never handled a RS one. Are silver RS ones marked stainless then?

I thought they were but I've just seen some pictures and they aren't either. But stainless is usually used to describe a silver gun or parts of a gun.

Had abit of a dig round, very hard not to find airsoft variants, but followed a couple of hunches on operators who might use a corrosion resistant weapon, and searched for P226's the US Navy use.

                            http://www.gunshopfinder.com/sig/sigP226navy.asp

This came up, shows a black P226, although non railed, with a stainless marking. Looks RS to me. Seems to suggest the Guarder markings are broadly in the right sort of area.

That's gotta be the first SIG that I've seen that has the stainless markings on it. Looks like you're right.
