Instead of using an ir torch ,have you looked into IR laser illuminators they cost around £100 but are 100 watts of lasery illuminating goodness ,more so than a torch and no silly red ir glow

yeah but that IR laser will just show where my gun is pointing wont it? and the beam wont be wide enough to light up any areas?

IR is invisible to the naked eye.
No one will be able to see the beam unless they've got night vision.

I'm not sure that it will.
I think you'd only get a VERY effective laser beam when looking through the sight.
But you won't have any depth perception when looking through night vision sights ... so the beam would look flat, maybe?

The beam can be adjusted from flood to point , and its called a laser illuminator not just a laser , youtube them matey you will be suprised ,but from the 100 watt (300 yard version) there around £125
