Re: Hand signals
Stick to British hand signals if you ask me.
Clear and precise.

Re: Hand signals
Have to agree with the last post, the amount of times my attempt at hand signals have confused a situation don't bear counting!

Re: Hand signals
useful non the less.
At least if someone is waving their hands about during a game I might have some understanding.
I might have to look out for the English ones seeing as someone said these are the American ones.

Re: Hand signals
Most of them are pretty self explanatory anyway...
E.g, 4 enemy would be:
1. Put four fingers up
2. Thumb down
3. point in direction
Friendly would be the same, but with a thumbs up instead.

Re: Hand signals
It's always puzzled me why some signals require arms in the air or two hands free, as if you're not expected to be in close-cover with gun at the ready, as in most cases you are when needing to be quiet.. :S

Re: Hand signals
Never thought of it like that!
I suppose you need them to be one handed really, even two handed assumes you have a sling..
We use:
Point then hold up fingers then point to eye/ear to denote direction and number of enemies and how you detect them.
Hammerfist at enemy means engage.
Curl an open palm to mean flanking
Generic ones for follow, stop, get down, get up.

Re: Hand signals
The only thing however which i found amusing was for " rifle" you have to stick your hand in the air. might not be a good idea..... lol

Yeah these signals seem odd...
Anyway.
The British signal for snap ambush is: snap with hands, hand on face, then direction.
Me thinks...
And herren bone formation, rifle in air, and other hand in air, but lower down.
Arrow head, point arms down to make an arrow.
obstacle, cross rifle and left arm in air
Thats all I remember for now.
The herring bone formation hand signal you've described here is for staggered file. Technically there isn't a hand signal for herring bone because it should be used before you even move into a hostile area.
Just for future reference
