Just out of curiosity was this an APS CQB M4 ? as i'm having exactly the same problem.

I had the same issue on an SRC, turned out I'd done the lowest 2 gearbox screws up too tight and they were stopping the anti reverse latch and bevel gear from moving. A quarter f a turn off and the gun fires perfectly.
Oh, I could turn the gets with a screw driver through the side of he get box, so even of thy move it ou,d till be that.
I know what i said because i was standing here when i said it.
