Batteries are fubar. As the battery drains, the voltage drops as that happens the current goes up. Test the resistance on the motor and compare it to another. If it's not round about the same the motor is on it's way out. Thats why it could be draining your batteries so quick. The motor you compare it with should be the same type or you could just google for your motors resistance value. Hope this helps. I'm a spark by trade so I know a little of what I'm on about.

Ive had another little fiddle with it and it seems to be fine, ROF apears better aswell..
Could the wires have been crunched up have caused any resistance?

Glad it's all better buddy. But at some point you should look into what actually happened so that you don't do it by accident again.
