Information on support guns please?
9 September, 2011, 13:17
Hi guys!!
im currently trying to find out which gun to buy for myself, my first AEG.
I Am set on buying a sniper, but i could also be swayed to use a support gun,
im wondering if anyone can tell me the pro's and con's of support guns, what is best to buy, how expensive they are to run (i can imagine you go through alot of BB's in the process) and any other info you think a newb should have?
Cheers Rich

Re: Information on support guns please?
personally i'm inclined towards the stonger 63 it all depends on what you like and what your budget is but for choice you have
cyma rpk
vfc m60
various makes of m249's
g&P stoner 63
ares m60
inokatsu m60
echo 1 mingun
echo1 m240 b
i could go on. Go on google and have a look at what gun you like the look of, then buy that one. In my opinion stay away from ares there crap the vfc and the inokatsu are quite good and heavy but come with a heavy price tag the echo 1's i can't say they seem good but looks can be decieving. the stoner is amazing it looks the part has a good range accuracy and rate of fire and there is a railed version coming soon!!

Re: Information on support guns please?
i wouldnt buy a "sniper" for a first gun, people seem to think its like playing call of duty, being a sniper in airsoft requires a lot of patience, and in reality, you need a really good gun.
to be honest, the only difference between a normal assault rifle and a support weapon is mag capacity, and looks.

I think you'd be better off buying an assault rifle of somesort, that would be the best way to go

Re: Information on support guns please?
also ammo costs a bottle of 5000 cost about £10-£12 which does me fine if i'm going as a support gunner, the only con i can think of is quite a few of them are quite weighty and as for running costs they work out the same as an aeg if your using mid caps you would need for a full day 10 and constantly reloading with a speed loader but with a box mag you open the trap door and fill her up which means no carrying around lots of mags

Re: Information on support guns please?
g&p stoner 63,support weapon thats similar in size to a m4 carbine and has semi and full auto function, best of both worlds.

What LMG's can you suggest in the 200 price range? and are clone LMG's really that bad,
i've seen some i can pick up quite cheap, and someone mentioned you could upgrade internals or something?
Cheers

You're not going to get a sniper worth throwing at the enemy for £200 mate. Get a nice AEG and go from there. I guarantee you will be happier that way.

Re: Information on support guns please?
If it were me, for about £200 I'd be looking at a second hand A&K M249 with a few mods (trigger switch, box mag). Although, with people using box mags and hicaps on anything and everything, unless you're simply into the look, you have to ask yourself if a support weapon is really worthwhile...

Re: Information on support guns please?
I have a A&K M249, along with some other support guns and I have to tell you that they are heavy. Depending on your build etc. it will be alot of weight to carry around all day.
Also your team mates expect you to supply alot of fire, so I tend to use about twice the ammount of ammo, compared to when I use a assult weapon.
If this is going to be your first AEG, I owuld suggest that you get a standard M4, or AK and see how you play, rather than getting bogged down with a heavy support weapon.

Re: Information on support guns please?
second hand L86? It basically is a DMR anyway, so best of both worlds (mean looks of a support gun and usage of a near-sniper rifle). May not be able to get one easily for £200, but stranger things have happened.
Bare in mind that a support gun is heavy though. And without the usual macho crap, weight slows you down. You cannot do the same thing or move in the same way with a massive long hunk of steel as you can with a little smg. Something to keep in mind.

Re: Information on support guns please?
Currently looking at an ARES M60, from someone at my local site.
Weight doesnt fuss me, i gym daily and i've been boxing for years now so i like to say im in shape haha, its mainly to support my friend who snipes, so i will be stationary for alot of the time. I found at times we would both have escaped fire had i been able to suppress and move.
I Will look into the L86 and the M249. my whole budget is not 200, i was just hoping to get one near that mark, but im guessing i'll have to spend a little more.
Thanks alot for all the information guys , has really all been useful.

Re: Information on support guns please?
I'd get an assault rifle for you first gun. Most M4s and G36Cs are pretty descent and if you want a great reliable out of the box gun I highly recommend the TM FAMAS.
Only get a support weapon if you really really like that certain model of gun. The only difference between assault rifles and support weapons in airsoft is weight and magazine capacity. If you use a high cap or box mag in an assault rifle type airsoft gun you can have a descent support weapon without the extra weight and bulk.
Just to reiterate what someone else said, I would advise against buy a "sniper" for a first gun, people seem to think its like playing call of duty, being a sniper in airsoft requires a lot of patience, and in reality, you need a really good gun (a good sniper can cost well over twice the price of most AEGs).
EDIT:
It doesn't matter how often you go to the gym. I can bicep curl 20kg but I wouldn't use an m60. Its not just about weight, its about bulk and how it affects your accuracy and the fact that a smaller lighter AEG does the job just as well as a massive M60.

Re: Information on support guns please?
Like i said, i've enjoyed sniping for a while, i have said before i've not played call of duty, as your the 2nd person to tell me that haha.
'my whole budget is not 200, i was just hoping to get one near that mark, but im guessing i'll have to spend a little more.'
Like i said im willing to go above that, i was just hoping naively to get a cheap one! haha
And its very nice that you can curl 20kg ^ ^
'so i will be stationary for alot of the time. I found at times we would both have escaped fire had i been able to suppress and move.'
But yeh the idea of a big mag on an AEG does reasonable making it like a support gun. Can you suggest?

Re: Information on support guns please?
Right, I have one thing to say.
A M4 could do the same as any support weapon you want (Within reason obviously). However if you want a support gunner you should go for it. If everyone went for the best and most practical equipment it would all be DPM and M4's.
Having a support gun will be heavier, and will be a bit of a nuisance sometimes but look very intimidating and are awesome! IMO go for a support gun
