Re: Server too busy
Not to sound cheap but i like the fact Zero one has never done a collection of funds for the forum, so many other forums i frequent have but that's because they are not owned or set up by a company. Its an individual who fronts the cost. The fact this forum is free overrides the fact its sometimes to busy. Only people without anything better to do with their time would complain about that fact.

Re: Server too busy
If the administrators of the Zero In forums wanted to ask for donations, I would expect (read "want" )them to completely do away with the rules regarding mentioning other retailers etc, and become completely independent of Zero One and the Ground Zero sites.
But it probably won't happen.

It's people like yourself who irritate me, they provide a FREE service for airsofters and help with our community, I would have never spoken to so many fantastic people on this forums due to living in the West Sussex (not many venues) -- I've had so much helpful advice and I honestly wouldn't mind to pay for this forum. I'm pleasantly surprised they take all this criticism and do not remove the forum completely!
Also, I don't understand what can make you justify what you're saying? You won't buy from them due to a FREE service they provide? The service they provide for their actual store is second to none, helpful advice and speedy delivery.
yes of course it irritates everybody, it isn't just you! Sometimes you just have to MAN UP and live without it for a few minutes.
As I later stated I am still going to be making an order with them, I was just trying to prove a point. It a heat of the moment comment, due to being practically locked out of the forums for hours being able to see a page every 5 minutes.. Most frustrating.
And I agree, I wouldnt mind putting a donation in for better services, but with it being a business, makes it hard to sort it out without other implications needing to be taken into account.

Yes mate, I completely understand 'heat-of-the-moment' type comments but sometimes you really have to watch things you say especially over the forums, people have been complaining about the forums for a while as we all know and it's making me sick so i'm not sure how ZeroIn actually feel. Like everyone else has stated as well as yourself, this is a free forum. I'm more than happy to donate money yearly to keep servers up to date but that means more hassle for them as new rules and such are put in place.
As for everyone who moans saying they are 'advertising' - It's their own forum, they only advertise their own items no one elses meaning they do not get funding for the forum, it's against the rules to mention other retailers so why would they contradict themselves and start advertising other sites? They are doing the airsoft community a service and a bloody good one at that! People on here are phenomenal and are such a laugh, I would happily pay good money to keep the server up and running.
Sorry if any comments came across as insulting,
Sean.

Re: Server too busy
If I'm paying I would expect zero downtime, and zero advertisement of ANY products irrespective of who sells them. Hell just keep the forum the way it is and ask people to pay £1 a year for a premium subscription which entitles them to a small discount at Z1 and removes ads from their screens, and give access to a paid members only section.
If that were to happen I would pay happily. I used to pay £15 a year for membership on a forum that offered the above - till I sold my last car that is.

I'm pretty sure your £1 a year doesn't add up to their loss from no advertising and discounted goods, especially as it is intended to pay better hosting costs? (maybe it was an arbitary figure, 15 quid seems a lot more reasonable as per your example). In fact i'd go as far as to say they'd be losing money, which a business doesn't want to do.
I'd be up for paying, i'm sure it would clear out a lot of the dross posters. However it also becomes a barrier to new players looking for information on the sport.
To me it is a free service i can take or leave as i choose, if i get value out of it, if not, i'll use it free of charge and not worry about the service.
Of course i was brought up with getting what you pay for, i don't have a self-inflated sense of entitlement like some internet crusaders.

I'm not saying £1 would be fair, the point I am making is that even as an active member on this forum, if I am asked to pay I expect a service that no free forum can offer, as a matter of principle, not value for money.

I`d pay £10 to £20 a year to never get a busy message again and to be able to mention other retailers and post links

Re: Server too busy
I'd pay for premium membership if it helps the forum, I do on another forum. I don't even think they should remove advertising. I think they should be able to advertise here.
I will be at the NAE 27th-30th August and replies to messages may be slow, bear with me!

Re: Server too busy
It's a free service so I am not really bothered.
If Zero One are not bothered about the down time, fair enough. If they are concerned about how it makes them look they will do something about it.
When you have the largest forum of the type in the UK, well you kind of have to expect to need a better server.

Re: Server too busy
They sometimes act like this forum is such a burden on them and their shop but it should be a pleasure a labour of love if you will they have an airsoft shop and a site they get to promote their site and shop for free to the biggest airsoft exclusive audience I bet loads of people would have never been to ground zero or the national airsoft event if it was not for this forum.
Personally if I had a site and a shop and this forum was mine I`d look at it like this I could spend money on advertising or I could just get make this forum better and even do some special promotions for forum members to get people to join up and make my forum bigger
They could use this forum and a re-style to become an iconic brand and start getting a lot more of their own branded gear even guns in and sell them even in other shops. If zero in were in London I would most likely use them for the bits and bob`s I normally order.
but anyway if used right this forum could make Zero in very rich and I`m sure as much as it helps us all where ever we may play or shop it also makes them some extra cash in sales and walk on fee`s.
So personally I`d show it a bit of TLC now and then and they do sometimes but it could do with a better server.

Re: Server too busy
If there was no other airsoft shop than Zero One, then there wouldn't be rules about not naming them now would there?

Re: Server too busy
There are pro's and con's to every angle which this discussion has produced.
Needless to say, nothing will be changing in the immediate future.
This is a free forum provided for by Zero One Airsoft, if you wanted to "donate" then by all means purchase something from them.
The server is good enough to host this forum, it is simply the correct settings that have to be found, which isn't as easy as some of you would like to think. Needless to say that I have poured 100's of unpaid hours into this forum trying to keep it working and function like it should and the vibe I get from this thread is that the admins don't care about the forum, and that no effort is made with it which does rather upset me.
The slow down issue is no where near as bad as it used to be, and hopefully the right settings will be found soon, until then, please be patient and understanding.

Re: Server too busy
I thank you all for the hard work you guys put into the forum, which is to be honest a damn awesome place for airsofters to get together and chat. I know how hard it is to keep a place running smooth, and that was a relatively small site where I only really had to worry about people flaming each other, whereas you chaps have to deal with law and attempted lawbreakers.
Thanks once again.
