    Re: "imitating" soldiers

Yep. And read the blurb mate.

Doesn't come with its certificate and he is selling them as replacements for people who have lost theirs.

He seems like a genuine seller too as he advertises that he can also send you the application form for your original. That will be the only way you get the certificate. And unless someone has stolen a huge amouint of the certificate paper then you wont get one as it is watermarked and numbered.

You may get a few walter mitty types but thats their delusion and i dont care about them i know i am entitled to wear it and I dont give a t*ss what people may think

I don't care who wears what, as long as medals arn't (seeing as people have to work proper hard to get them, and lives have been lost, not in trying to gain them, but for what they belive in and fight for).
I'm fine with berets, rank badges ect, just not medals, and has been said before, AS LONG AS THEY ARE WORN WITH RESPECT FOR THOSE WHO USE THEM!!!

        Re: "imitating" soldiers

In brief, as I am a bloke of few words.

I did 16 years for Queen and country, I have my wings and 8 medals, (some harder earned than others!) and I couldn't give a rats ass what insignia folk choose to wear on their playing out clothes!

And although I have never seen anybody on a skirmish field wearing medals I think I would be a bit annoyed if they hadn't earned them.

Point to note: A guy found to be wearing a bunch of medals that he didn't earn at the last parade of rememberance was fined 1K and hounded out of his local legion. Tosser!

As wearing medals in airsoft get mentioned a LOT, has anyone actually seen anyone wearing medals while 'softing? I know I haven't

                  Nope never.

And continuing the debate, I think wearing medals would be lame, unless for example, my grandfather who died god bless his soul (passed away 15 years ago) and gave me some medals (that he earned in WW2) and I chose to wear them out of respect for him. However, personally wearing them in airsoft or in general is not for me.

What is to say, that another guy you saw wearing medals had not earned them or had them handed down???

Could he not have been wearing relatives medals? Whether he was seving or not what's wrong with that? He could have been remembering and honouring his ancestorsm his blood that earned them. Although I don't know the case in question!

I'm mearly trying to make the point that you should not judge someone without all of the facts as to why they are doing what they are doing, the sources, and more importantly, do the people judging really have a right, after all it is a free country.

                      Re: "imitating" soldiers

if you want to wear medals on behalf of a family member you should wear them on the opposite side, that shows you are not the one who earned them.
thats the proper way to show respect.

                        Re: "imitating" soldiers

Just reading through some of the comments made me think about why we play skirmish/milsim.

If it's to recapture what you've experienced - with the greatest respect how does wearing the insignia/medals berets, socks or trophies make your participation more enjoyable?

There is a danger of the whole experience becoming blurred. I would suggest examining the need to display ex- forces credentials; why do it?

THere seems to me a few streams of thought but to me the essence of the day is to socialise (try and play on your own, but i'm sure there are some who can answer that with more quality than I) and have an enjoyable event.

                        There are people who:-
Will be affronted at the display of particular insignia and will deem it disrespecful
Will display it because they happen(ed) to be a part of it
Will display it through an interest in realism
Are walts who need to be noticed
Don't care a rats - who just want to play
The last kind really cause me concern - It's tha type who exclude others from playing because they do not conform in one shape or form.

My own opinion:- You feel the need? Go ahead and enjoy but ask yourself is it the right environment.
You don't like it? Ask yourself why is it really giving you a hard time.

I see a lot of confusion This is not re-enactment; It's a lot more fun
