Actually, the kind that cause me concern are (while seeing people fully dressed up) would
be inclined to introduce them to my Type 56's bayonet

      Re: "imitating" soldiers

      Some interesting replies here people!

It just came to my attention, that like you said, brit loadouts get a lot of attention with certain TRF's and brigade flashes, but I see people running around in full russian/american uniform and insigs, and no-one gives a feck!

But I did at one skirmish see a fat dude with REAL long hair and lots of dangly ring things in his ears in full DPM, L85 with susat, with a 16AA brigade badge, a 2para flash and wings, with a Royal engineers stable belt?

Now I noticed that straight up, I wasnt offended or anything, I just thought hes making himself look an utter douche-bag, but other guys there were getting VERY worked up about this guy and his uniform and whether he had "the right"

But I agree, Medals, never. Even if they were hand downs, or you had earned them, theyre not supposed to be displayed on combat uniform anyway, and Ive never seen people skirmish in full no. 2's! + why add the risk of losing them in some random skirmish site?

          Re: "imitating" soldiers

from what ive read on various different airsoft forums, serving or ex-serving british personnel arent too bothered unless you actually pretend you are/were in that unit. so just use your common sense really.
now if this were america, well, they think of it very differently

            Re: "imitating" soldiers

Personally, I Think current serving (Especially new serving) Paras would get iffy about the red lid and wings, because of P-Company, and them being elite, same as the commandos

not saying other regiments arent as proud of their lid and reg, just in particular, I know paras are very selective, and proud of what theyve earned.

Hell, I was in a club, got chatting to a guy about my tattoos, which lead onto the discussion of the army, and I got headbutted for saying "royal anglians"!

My late Step-Dad was in the RAF many years ago and met several Russian officers, as he spoke fluent Russian, German and Polish and was attached to JACIG (Joint Arms Control Implementation Group), going round the old Soviet block counting tanks, and they exchanged various bits and bobs - my Step-Dad bought a couple of Levis jackets for two of the Russian officers to take home for their kids. In return when he visited Russia for the arms control talks he was given Russian medals and badges by the grateful Russian guys. My youngest brother thought these were great and wore them on his own denim jacket. These medals just looked nice - there wasn't anybody around to know what they meant and had originally been awarded for, and therefore nobody to get offended by a non-Russian civilian wearing them. They were just "cool" badges.

Some of the younger kids wearing British insignia may have the same knowledge - not much - and just think that they look "cool". They don't intend to cause offense, and most service personnel, either present or past, won't take offense. As has been stated before, the people taking offense are usually not those who earned the medals anyway.

Then on to 10 Sqn airfield repair, back to 36 Regt 50 Sqn and went out to NI and the Falklands with them. NI was Sangar repair. Done a stint at 24 Bridging SQN and left in Nov 84 to get married bought myself out and was the biggest mistake i have ever made in my life Army number was 245***** I got to B1 Combat Engineer and B! Bricklayer was my main trade
Crikey heck lol. I first went to 23 Amphibious squadron as a SATT, done me A2 (Brikky also ), went back to 28 reg but 42 field sqn this time, went on me A1, then got posted to 34 Field squadron so I know all about ADR *shudders* lol, just left there & am posted down to the land warfare center's close support troop in Warminster as of January. I think I'm going to go 24 Reg (tis now a commando regiment, 59's still one of the sqn's though), after I get me weetabix shins sorted & have regained some decent level of fitness lol.

Yea I probably was one of the last guys to use the SLR as Re's phased them out roundabout the time i was leaving. Mine was number 64 and still had the wooden foregrip, butt and pistol grips. I was issued with a SUIT sight due to me being my troops designated marksman. Oh for a cheapsoft version of that little beauty. Me eyes have gone all misty. And yeah my bad been. so long ago now,I forgot the brisky was an A trade. Now all we need is a rendition of "get em down you Zulu warrior" lol. Would be nice to meet up at a game Millzy we aint too far away in reading and get to Eversley quite a bt but we are looking to go to a few new sites this year

                          Re: "imitating" soldiers

I wear a a t shirt under my camos that has the para wings on out of respect for my late grandad who served and earned his wings. I too have those wings. Now i would never dream of wearing them in a game not as i belive it would cause offence i just would be gutted to loose them. I would however wear the wings patch on my arm as a massive sign of respect to all that have and are still serving but as its been said all through this thread airsofters, not current or ex soldiers can be real asses about it so i dont as i just can not do with the hassle.

Hey, ive an idea. Why not set up a ranking and badging system just for airsoft, where club members can earn the badges by the skirmishes they attend and battles they win. Badges that are not in anyway connected with any military units. It could be done by an airsoft body who the club have to send a request for that member to receive his badge. It could still have say a sniper badge, master at arms badge or some sort of skermish badge. These badges could then be recognised throughout the uk airsoft community and the people who wear them have earned them on the airsoft fields.
