It's still a moot point though, you're dealing with peoples' perceptions about guns. How many people were killed in London last year by cricket bats (compared to guns, incase you find one :p )
How many people in London were killed with magpul'd assault rifles with torches and boxmags stuck to them last year? It doesn't really matter because people will get worried about gun shaped things no matter what, except where they are used to seeing them or know what they are used for.
I'm not saying some kind of unifying body would allow us to brandish RIFs in public or even make them easier to get hold of. I'm saying it might have positive effects on gameplay, travelling groups, dicrimination against unknown players, along with giving us a much more healthy and comprehensible motive when questioned by the media.

Re: Airsoft - Official Sport/Standardisation
In my opinion it links down to the real guns and hiding them SO much from the public.
people believe you cant even touch a gun over here in the UK, and that is such a bad thing to believe, it escalates everything.

How so B.E.N? I already have feel good playing the game as it is, what would make it better? What effect on travelling would it have? I already get to and from games with no known problems. Are unknown players discriminated ? If so, how? And how would this change that?
as for the final point you may be right, but with so many anti gun factions and do gooders out there, it would take a lot of concerted effort to change any of their minds.

The first point was fuelled by the Cerebus(sp?) site message about known and trusted players etc... I just think being accountable for your actions a little more directly might encourage more sensible/considerate play from all involved...

I feel I'm repeating myself here, but it's still people's fear of guns you're going to have to overcome, and it's simply not going to happen. At the end of the day we still run around dressed as soldiers brandishing real looking guns and people have a phobia about it.
As for the rest of it, I'm not sure it would have a positive enough effect as jfox has already mentioned. As for Cerberus and their 'trusted' players, I'd say that was a rather isolated issue. I actually think leagues could be a good idea, it would at least show we're more organised as a body, but as I said in my first post, so long as it doesn't have a detrimental effect on the casual player.

What effects could you see occur to the regular player if a league is set up?

The government would leave us alone, but airsoft isnt a hobby you can turn into a sport unless it followed the same clown suit route as sup air ball, and thats why they would leave us alone because it would suddenly become unreal and fake.

Depends on what rules would be in place really, but it may mean extra strain on sites, which would mean some game days may be league only events instead of regular skirmish days. I can also see games getting a little more heated as teams use them for "practice". As people have said, some take it way too seriously already, although there's no getting away from that
