Re: Airsofting whilst incapacitated
Fair play to all you guys out there. It makes for very humble reading, and i actually feel quite embarrassed to write this next bit about myself, which is nothing in comparison to some of the stories on here.
I was out on tour, and had literally just got back from my RnR (a great time was had by me!) I landed on the thursday, went to normal work friday sat and sunday. Come the monday, i was in absolute agony. My ankle had swollen up, i couldnt walk, my shoulder was in such a state if i moved it i couldnt help but nearly cry. I was bedded down for a couple of days, then back to the med centre. This process continued, with the paracetamol and Ibuprofen getting upgraded to 10mg co-codamol, and then 30mg 500mg paracetamol Tylex tablets with Naproxen anti-inflams. Weeks went by, me constantly spending more time in bed, less walking about, crippling pain in my shoulder, neck and ankle. It all came to a head when they finally sent me to the hospital. A overnight stay turned into six, whilst they took fluid out of my ankle to check for infections. A canula with 4 x 20ml penicillin fluid and numerous anti-inflams, painkillers and antibiotics did nothing for me. Turned out there was no infection.
The doctors have come to the conclusion i have what is called Reactive Arthritis. Basically put, my body fought off an infection, then got confused and started attacking health tissue and body parts. It causes tremendous pain and swelling throughout the infected areas (Currently neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, lower back, knees, ankles, feet and toes.) I'm due in to go and see the specialist at Headley court, after being Aeromed'd with a week left of my tour. This has been going on for 7 weeks now, and no manner of painkillers help. First thing in the morning it takes me about 10 minutes just to stand up. All my muscles contract because of the extra fluid, means things like bending or straightening even just my finger is near impossible. The doctors are more than likely going to put me on Steroids to get the problem sorted, and because of the length this takes to go away (as there is no cure), it could be anywhere between another month and a half to 6 months total. After 6 months, they need to start more drastic methods due to the likelyhood of perma damage to the joints and muscles.
I'm just praying that i can move freely in time for the weekender. This condition isnt the nicest. Also, due to the anti-inflams i was on, i started to get stomach ulcers due to taking them incorrectly, meaning im on even more tablets to help line my stomach and prevent any more bleeds internally.
When i do go back to work (after tour leave) ill be on light duties, then a complete back to fitness program to get my muscles and fitness back up to scratch. I cant even walk more than a few hundred metres due to my muscle wastage without becoming utterly knackered.
But like i said, I cant complain too much. Many people here have much worse conditions. I wish all of you the best health, as i know how debilitating it can be to not do something you love.

Re: Airsofting whilst incapacitated
muscle wastage sucks balls, the worst part for me is that moment post surgury where you "think" that you are fine and you do something and it tires you for 4 days or you end up in so much pain you are curled up in a ball being sick. happened to me softing once and everyone was awesome it also happened when I decinded "I'm ok I will just walk to she shop for a pack of cafe creme as a treat I don't need my crutches its only 300m" left me in screaming pain shivering on the floor being sick.
