At the time, it was the most powerful handgun in the world at a touch over 2000J muzzle energy. Now it has been replaced by .500 S&W with between 2300 and 3000+J. (Also note; .50AE is not a particularly powerful round at only around 1650J though this is still over three times that of .45ACP).

So you're saying the .50 Action Express rounds used by the Desert Eagle are NOT as powerful as .44 magnum rounds? That's interesting, I thought otherwise.

Though none of them compare to the Raging Bull .500 rounds. That thing really hurts your hands, they had one in a gun range I was in, in Florida.

I sure am saying that. .50AE is a poor round, the desert eagle is a poor pistol and overall, the use is limited.

Its also worth pointing out that .50BMG, of M82 fame, is also fairly useless, at least in that role. Bigger bore does not a better weapon make.
