      Re: Reload procedure

My usual reloading procedure is as follows...
      1. Run dry or low.
      2. Swear lots
      3. Fumble around with velcro on mag pouch, being unable to actually grasp the thing due to wet/dirty gloves whilst firing off any remaining bb's in the loaded mag.
      4. Swear more.
      5. Finally get mag out pouch. Continue swearing.
      6. Remove dry mag, keeping it in hand or dropping it at my feet.
      7. Load and wind new mag
      8. Swear more, attempt to resume firing with 1 hand.
      9. If possible, attempt to place dry mag in now free pouch.
      10. Fail due to velco having flopped closed again, get shot in the face and swear even more.
      11. Sling F2K, actually get mag in pouch and then swear some more.

Maybe I should work on some alternative method? :P

          Re: Reload procedure

Im sure any professional shooters out there would hate me for this (if it wasnt just a game), but with a pistol, I often hold a spare magazine between my index and middle fingers of my support hand whilst shooting. This makes it quite fast to do a kind of tactical reload, just swapping the two magazines. Once the second mag is empty, there is the issue of having two empties in your hands and having to find pouches for.

            Re: Reload procedure

The usual drill if attacking is. Drop to one knee, take mag out of gun, dump in dump pouch, grab mag out of tac vest, insert in to gun, carry on attack. Other way I go around it is run out of ammo in my rifle, drop it on to sling, pull pistol, carry on attack. This is what happens if the attack is going in to the later stages when clearing out buildings, trenches, hedgerows of stragglers.

              Re: Reload procedure

when i reload i generally remove the new mag from my mag pouch,
swap the fresh one for the old one in the rifle while still shouldered
then if its safe place the empty mag where i removed the new one,
i slowly move left to right across my plate carrier which prevents me getting confused as to which has ammo inside or not

similar for pistols too, remove mag, swap mags leaving empty one in my hand all while keeping the pistol on target

its not easy/comfortable to do but it means that my weapons stays ready and on target and theres only a second gap where there is no ammo

                Ah, the old 'Brecon' style.

Does hurt a bit when you go prone with a few down there tho.

As for me, it all depends on load out and AEG.
I use mid caps, always prefered then. Static in a building/ sanger/ street corner i'll lay a few mags in a row.
When i need a reload, i'll drop the mag straight out onto the floor, all the while my left hand has the fresh mag in it, and ready to load. I reckon i can get this down to between 2-3 seconds.
As soon as i get a second, i'll scoop up the empties and either reload them or dump pouch them.

If i'm mobile its drop mag in hand, dump pouch, fresh mag out via magpul and load. Around 5 seconds top for this.

                  Re: Reload procedure

Bit off-topic I know, but it reminds me of a couple of things.

Not long after the incident with faked photos of Iraqis being beaten up in the back of an army lorry, I was at the RMP Training School in Chichester and heard a loud booming noise coming from the pistol range. It was obviously not a pistol and wondered if someone was practicing with a shotgun. Being lunchtime, I wandered around and was suprised to see a Major with a batton gun shooting the crap out of plywood targets. He was holding 2 or 3 spares between his fingers, ready for reload, like you see photos of the old African hunters doing on a big game hunt. It would never have occured to me to do that. When I spoke to him later, as you can guess, he was really up for his trip to the sandbox.

On another occasion, I was teaching a booty from the SBS support unit at Poole and, in an attempt to get him to think through and say out loud a safety procedure he knew well (trying to get him thinking about routines and safety drills under pressure) I said to him mid-conversation "what's the stoppage drill for an SA80 - go!". I almost pissed myself when, without hesitation he replied "let go of it, grab my Sig and keep shooting"!

Bugger all I could say really, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Having said that, it was a trained and practised response to an emergency situation, and that was what I was after.

Standard procedure for a stoppage, go to back up. Both real world and airsoft.

For me, I bascially make my way to some suitable cover. Switch mags, and they try and kill/move away

If it's really tight though, I switch to my pistol
