  • Sniping Pair - Spotter and Shooter.

    Hello chaps,

Has anyone tried working as part of a sniping pair before? If so, how did you find it worked?

I'm thinking of trying it with a friend and want some advice before we give it a go.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Woody.

Ive tried it, generally found it to be a waste of time. At the ranges youre doing airsoft sniping you dont need a spotter, plus it tends to be quite a boring day for the spotter. Also two people are easier to spot than one

well ive done it as both spotter and shooter, what you find is spotter should always carry an aeg and defends the sniper from a small distance away then at least the spotter can do some shooting aswell

It worked well for me and mate the other day.
He was the sniper and i was the spotter/protection.
he was armed with a highly upgraded VSR and i was armed with my M4 DMR and his A&K M249 Mk1 (For the tough moments)

We once had to help defend a fire base we took cover in a ditch and with us both wearing head and should ghille suits we were both well hidden. I spotted target that were a threat to us and i took out anyone with a my DMR.
In the end we were the last 2 left. But due to us being both well concealed we were not spotted so after another 10mins we gave up i got out the M249 and he whipped out his Mk23 and we let them have it.

So it helps to both have good ranged guns.
        Both were the same camo.
Find good hiding spots to shoot from. Know your terrain.
use black BB's you will be surprised how much they help.
        Dont move quickly.
Have a good back up when things go tits up
And ACTULLY work as a team.

If you got any other Q's let me know dude.

U can also use this for support gunner teams as well

Re: Sniping Pair - Spotter and Shooter.

My friend and I worked in a Spotter/Sniper pair at a milsim event in January. It was at a woodland site and we were watching one section of the 'border' and had orders to eliminate any opposition sneaking over.

My friend was using his fully upgraded vsr-10 and I had his M4 with an acog. We worked effectively and were able to pick of small teams crossing within range and harass larger groups long enough for our border patrol back to arrive and assist.

I think that if you're going to be static for a long time, as we were (5 hours), then it can be an awesome combination, but we don't work like this in standard games due to the fast pace and rapid redeployment.

Re: Sniping Pair - Spotter and Shooter.

Me and My mate usually patrol as sniper and AEG outfit and to be honest we are pretty untouchable.
Sometimes we both carry snipers and AEGs L96 and SAR Officer, VSR 10 and G36c or HK416 Lipo'ed up to 11.1v so when the sh*t hits the fan we can get the firepower down.

I would say we perfom better in a defensive/ambush role than hunting/tracking role.

Good communication is a must we don't have radios yet, but use simple hand signals that work effectively.

When we move/retreat we know exactly where each other are

Knowing your surroundings and where the dead ground is the key to success.

Sometimes we wont even engage and let enemy pass and take the odd person out, great when you hear the enemy team talking saying I got taken out over there but someone else saying I never, they instantly think he must be gone then!!! are we f*uck

            hope this helps

Re: Sniping Pair - Spotter and Shooter.

We discussed this over in the sniping tactics thread.
Only tried it once at GZ with an old mate - but we got caught during our stalk in.

It would work well if you can guarantee that you can get to a decent firing point prior to any enemy and set yourself up.

But you have to know each other pretty well - because if you don't work well as a team it just won't happen.

I came up against a sniper team once,i couldnt get near them, tryed to flank again, but the spotter preventëd me,because i had initally compromised their position the team dëcided to up sticks to relocate, even wen they were on the move i couldnt get close enough without getting shot,i was on my own,so i went n found some easier targets instead.

Re: Sniping Pair - Spotter and Shooter.

Me and a mate were a team on my last skirmish.

I had an upgraded A&K Dragunov SVD,
he has a bog standard DE M50.

We played mostly attack/defend games, and I'm not one for much camoflague...especially with an orange wood SVD.

I was literally leaning against trees shooting anyone who popped their heads up. There was a team to my rear, and my well hidden mate watched my left and back flank. Needless to say, I was gonna get flanked by some sneaky bugger.

My mate shot him right in the chest when he was 20m away from me, and 40 from him. Gave the sneaky bugger one hell of a shock!

As far as spotting goes, we'd often stick nearby and call out targets, approx. distance and rough direction in relation to where you're currently looking. But spotting doesn't really work, I find, in airsoft. As long as you work well as a team, your weapon choice doesn't matter (except we both had AEGs as back ups) you can do anything.

Disagree if you wish- but I get a far too icthy trigger finger and fidgety if staying still too long. And probably would die of boredom being a spotter, and don't want my mate to pay £20 to sit around, watching me shoot.

My style is deterrence more than stealth. It seems to work for me!

Cheers for your input fella's. It's definitely something we're going to try. As part of your team did the spotter have as their weapon of choice?

My mate has a VSR, so will be the sniper and I was wondering what would be the best weapon of choice for me as a spotter.

Spotter weapon doesn't matter too much - but as said any mid range AEG will do the trick!

It was very popular some years back for people to use the m14 socom.

It certainly seems like a very fun way to play - consider swapping weapons half way through the day to give you both a chance to be the shooter.

I think it might be more fun to both have sniper rifles, and then choose when a target pops up who will take the shot and who will 'spot' for other targets. Me and a friend held up a 6 man team doing this.

I tried this last time I was at Anzio. We were getting mullered, by everyone...lol. Could hardly get a foot away from the re sporn. I ran into a room where there was a sniper and spent a while spotting for him. It was a very effective way of playing. The distance was to far for my aeg and spotting I had his targets lined up for him as it were. Quite satisfying and enjoyable.
