[QUOTE=WillGreen;1297458]When colour challenged, I don't respond unless I know god-damned well it's my own team.

    So you cheat?
As far as the Mall's rules go you HAVE to respond. And a correct colour challenge they should state they're own team colour first. So you should know which team they're on...
The rule is just there to make a days play a bit more fun and to be shot up by your own team or at a stalemate around a corner from you're own guys.

Personally, I've never been to a site that has made the 'colour challenge' a rule. When/if I do, I'll respect that. I just don't believe you should give your position away to the enemy team when, in essence, they ask where you are.

All it takes is for you to say "Red/Blue/Pink/Green/Burple/Whatever" then they know where you are, and can plan accordingly.

If I walk through some trees shouting "Colour", does a sniper in ghille need to respond?

      -----EDIT-----

Also, I've never heard anyone state their own colour first, or even if the person being challenged states their colour first - they're just met by a shower of BBs.

        How it is at the mall (all i know on this rule) is that;
You can only colour challenge someone you have seen or engaged with. (No empty room checks)
You must state your own colour then "colour"
If challenged you must respond before shooting them (hence the asking team isn't at a disadvantage)
If you are sure that no one has seen you (Sneaky beaky in the dark - or ghillie in woodland if they use the rule there) Then you can ignore the challenge.

Obviously other sites might have differing variations but the mall you will know where they are so If unsure of a few peoples colours, pop a few rounds into the wall next to them and declare your own colour and challenge.

Or... just shoot them instead (My preference.) But if I am challenged I will always reply and wait a beat before shooting

I'm not a fan of challenges because you're quite right, it's open to abuse, from both parties.

However, whenever I've been challenged, I've always responded. The game is based on trust and honesty, and if someone challenges me (which also may well give away their position) I take it they have eyes on me and simply can't see what team I'm on.

imagine this scenario, your in a room defending from attackers, a grenade comes in through a doorway to your left but ends up going of infront of a wall, 5 secs later a head pops round the doorway pointing a gun in but hesitates. Do you A) open fire on the unkown but easily identifiable due to being able to see the colour band on his arm and already hostile(since he did throw a grenade in) or B) look at new comer blankly then walk away nonchalantly with out speaking.

as for the colour challenge i have never known a rule for it, and i never Lie about my colour, but i never answer unless i am in a position to return fire or its ny own team.

I think people misunderstood me originally. I'm thinking of a specific area at my local, a blind corner with cover just behind it. They colour challenge before any of them come around the corner, so I don't respond (this situation is similar to the empty room check and blind banging).

If, on the other hand, one had come around the corner, and I had shot them, they see their player is hit so challenge; that's different (although I still don't like it)...

Another point that has been raised in this thread is "shoot now, ask questions later". That is more me.

Also, if there is no response, shoot them, the same as "are you hit?".

If my own team challenge and I don't respond, so they proceed to shoot me, that's my fault so we laugh about it and I go respawn.

If I'm honest, I'm quite put out about how quickly people jumped to "you're a cheater".

It only works if everyone is on the same page.

Its like the bang rule, unless everyone does it, it doesn't work (not that it works anyway).

In real life you wouldn't go up to a taliban and say excuse me are you a taliban.

So I would say that is the best policy.

I normally just open fire if they arent on my team - hell, I'm wearing an arm band.

The only difference was when I was acting as a marshal/mutant the other day - it was dark and there were no arm bands (pointless when it's pitch black) - when challenged my response was effectively a wring wraith cry and charging at them.

Back to the colour challenge rule.
Mall rules are you have to respond, before exchanging fire.
Some people are dicks about this.
Example: A guy rounds a corner of a room you are in, you colour challenge the player, "green colour" they then spot you, reply, and shoot the second they reply.
                        This is B.S!

On many occasion I've ducked into a room, basically walked straight into the opposing team, and they've challenged me before I've had a chance to fire.
Out of courtesy instead of me responding, and shooting them instantly.
I'll respond, take a step back outside of the room, and continue the encounter from there.
No hard feelings that way. Right?
(It's hard to explain without being in the scenario)

i can sorta understand the colour challenge rule in CQB.. but then the site must of had problems to have a rule like this, and i don't realy understand the need to colour challenge people coming in a room, if you see your teams armband you don't shoot, if you dont then you fire, .....and if you make it so that team A wears their bands on their right arm and team B wears it on there left then you can eliminate the problem of not seeing an enemys armband. or is this another of my stupid ideas....

everywhere I've played which has needed some kind of colour challenge have only said you can't lie. You don't have to respond in anyway or state your colour before hand. They basically say that if you don't respond, expect to be shot and if the person you asks doesn't respond, shoot them.

Yup. I'm of the position that a colour challenge should be your third option for ascertaining what team someone is behind visual and situational awareness. Particularly at the Mall there is a section of players that seem to think that no-one should be shooting unless a colour challenge has been performed.

Sorry guys, I feel that is pretty weak play. Fortunately it is a minority, but I've had a few occasions where after entirely acceptable engagements people have been calling out "where was the colour challenge?".

Back towards topic, and as an example of a failure of situational awareness, I particularly enjoyed in my last game at the Mall in the first mission of the day, when we were defending the upper floor, I'd hidden myself away in a nice corner with a good view of the door from the stairwell. We were the last area to be attacked, and while we were waiting a lad was wandering around colour challenging guys who could only possibly be on his team, because we had both stairwells under control and there hadn't even been any shooting near us yet. Even worse, apparently one of his colour challenges was directed at me, which I'm afraid I made the mistake of ignoring because it was frankly pants-on-head-retarded, and suddenly I have BBs bouncing around my hiding place. Fortunately missing and resulting in a few rather sarcastic words from me.
