Don't need to be Oakley gloves. If you want to save a few £££ you could always try and get a pair of Nomex flight gloves. Will probably cost you half of what the Oakleys will

Re: Modern USMC Force Recon loadout?
The nomex flight gloves are pretty cheap, is it the ones with the knuckle protection or just the plain ones?
I've got the NVG mount turning up from the shop in the place that was part of the commonwealth untill 1997, is it just a drill and fit job, if so is there any knack to it? Don't want to crack the plastic on the helmet.

Re: Modern USMC Force Recon loadout?
This is my first attempt at "Dusting" the helmet, The NVG mount hasn't turned up yet but does this look better?
If the general concensus is that it's pants I can always spray it black and re-dust

Cool, it was a bit of a trial and error thing, I acutally sprayed it at arms length in the dark!

Re: Modern USMC Force Recon loadout?
I've now sprayed the knee pads khaki as an interim measure, I can't find a coyote spray anywhere but I thought it would do for the moment untill I can either find some spray or buy some new knee pads as I had the Khaki spray anyway. They do look a bit better now...

Re: Modern USMC Force Recon loadout?
Bit of a connundrum with the helmet mount (This helmet has been SO much hassle!)
I ordered two different mounts by mistake ( I thought I needed both) So I've got the Triangular one that bolts to the helmet (Norotos style) and the rectangular one that has a clip that goes under the edge of the helmet.
The triangular one has turned up covered in black spraypaint (It's supposed to be new!) where it's obviously been used and the doughnut has sprayed the threads for the screws so it's a nightmare to get them undone!
The main problem is that it doesn't sit flush with the helmet as the curvature at the front of the helmet is greater than the slightly flatter curve on the back of the mount. I'm worried if I drill the helmet the screws wont be long enough and there wil be a gap of a few millimeters at the edge of the mounting all the way round.
There's a bit of flex in the bracket but it will probably work its way loose because it will be under tension.
I'm thinking I might possibly be able to glue this to the helmet (It won't ever actually be used to mount an NVG unit so it's not got to be too secure) but I'm worried about the glue eating into the helmet, when I sprayed it with Krylon about a week ago it wouldn't dry properly on the rim and it's still slightly tacky to the touch now, making me think the helmet is made of something wierd which will react with glue.
The other option is to use the rectangular one, which to be honest doesnt look as good and I'll have to buy the strap that goes with it. Also most of the photos I've seen of the FR guys have them using the triangular mount.
Any ideas or comments would be helpfull, the "Helmet" part of the loadout is really doing my head in, it's taking ages to sort out!

Re: Modern USMC Force Recon loadout?
If you're primarily playing in woodland just get a boonie. And if you ordered the mount from HK its possible that it is new, just the manufacturing is kinda crap.

Re: Modern USMC Force Recon loadout?
I do quite like having a proper lid on, everyone at my local site wears boonies! That said when I bought the Top and trousers it did come with a boonie so it's an option.
I'm not giving up on this poxy helmet just yet though, I won't let it beat me! There's some pics below that show the way it's
not
fitting. My plan is basically to fix it on with no more nails, I know it's not the proper way but as far as I can tell the mounts are actually riveted on anyway so screws still aren't right.
It will look OK from the front but close up from the sides you can see the gap of a few mm's. If it really starts to get annoying I'm ging to put some paintable flexible gap filler in the cracks and just paint it black! I'm not going for a museum piece I just want it to look OK!
I've since got all the rubbish paint off the mount by the way so it doesn't look as bad as it does in the photos!
It's sitting a bit prouder than it will do when it's fixed as this is a mock up with blu tac!
I hope the rest of the loadout isn't this much of a PITA!

dont worry paul i still wear a helmet at skirmish! (y)
tbh i think no more nails is what your gonna have to do drilling through plastic is tough especiallly when its flat so you might crack the whole helmet

No more nails it is then, that should stick it, we stuck a bit of wood to the forklift with it and we needed a crowbar to get it off so it should hopefully work!

Lol, I used to work at focus before I got a proper job, we basically used to much about, good times :-) i'm going to mark the helmet up before I fit the mount, it'll drive me nuts if it's on the wonk!

Re: Modern USMC Force Recon loadout?
Finally got the helmet sorted out, I've glued the front mount on and thankfully it doesn't sit too proud and I've also added another layer of Khaki, hopefully this is the "top part" of the loadout sorted, I've not seen any pictures of FR wearing goggles apart from when they've got gas masks on so my Bolle safety secs will have to do for skirmishing untill I can get some Oakleys
Edit: Please ignore the bottle of BB's lol
