Re: Reliable airsoft gun
Well, I think it is fair to say, most people have teir favourite manufacturers. I certainly have mine. Tm not being one of them. I have had too many things go wrong with the TM guns I did have it put me off buying any more.
This isn't to say they are not good guns, just that I have yet to own one of them lol. The plastics thing is again, a personal thing, and again, apart form the sopmod and M14, TM's to me feel very toylike.
Again this doesn't make them bad but is a personal thing only appreciated by the owners. You love em or you hate them.
The simple fact of the matter, regardless of manufacturer you are going to get good uns and you are going to get bad uns. The only way around it is to try before you buy and see what you personally think of our personal recommendations.
Also as our current, and esteemed, reigning Knobhead has just stated, and I agree totally with him, many people upgrade for the sake of it, when nothing is really needed to make the gun better.

Absolutely. The number of threads that start along the lines of "I've just bought a
xxxxx
and wondered what I should upgrade?" is numerous. I always ask "Why, what is it not doing well". There seems to be an obsession that you MUST upgrade otherwise it's going to be useless, which simply isn't the case.

On that topic, another misconception is that a plethora of different brand upgrades will perform better than the stock gearbox they're being shoved in. For instance, I've had someone from my site ask me to shove the following into his G&P M4:
Systema gearset
Element piston
ICS tappet plate
Guarder cylinder and head
King arms bushings
Systema piston head
ICS Turbo 3000 motor
Now granted, each of those parts are good bits of upgrade kit in their own right. But together in a G&P gearbox case, they'll create a fair few little intolerances that together will add up to the gearbox being worse than what a bit of fine tuning could do in the stock G&P box.
Anyway rant over. To the OP. Whilst TM internals are rock solid loveliness, the bodies on the M4's are pants unless you're really careful with them. The back pin lugs snap on the upper receiver leaving your gun pivoting apart on the front pin. Grab yourself a metal body to go with it and you're laughing.

Re: Reliable airsoft gun
The only problem ive found with TM M4's once they have been upgraded with metal bodies is the outer barrel is made of 2-3 parts and after a few skirmishes you can shoot round corners with it its that wobbly. If you replace it with a G&P alluminium 1 piece barrel it'll be fine.

I've heard the same thing everywhere but never had an issue with it on any of the M4 varients I've owned. You simply tighten up the outer barrel screws and it's rock solid. Maybe I just got very lucky

Re: Reliable airsoft gun
lol at the people recommending CA's. Their internals are made of cheese, probably the most unreliable make you could buy right now!
Go for a TM, ICS, G&G or KWA. G&P's sometimes have problems with their gears.

You must be thinking of the sportline series. The 'proper' CA guns are fantastic bits of kit. Waltzinblack pretty much only buys CA stuff and then throws it at me to shim. And they've all been great gearboxes. The one I pulled out his Scar I liked so much I bought the gun from him.
And Imma stop posting in this thread now. Promise.

Re: Reliable airsoft gun
I know the guy said maybe an m4 and everyone's going TM are poo there made of plastic. But off the top of my head TM guns I have owned that are fantastic and are in budget second hand, Thompson hadn't used it in 3 years no maintenance hooked it up to a lipo ran like a charm. Sig 552 cracking gun don't need to get new mags, Mp5 good range, a Little light but great guns, G36 I ve owned 4 of these love them( must state at this point I have a short attention span buy a gun then sell it a month later to buy new shiny) P90 high caps are crap but set of mids shoots further than guns twice it's length. MC51 again pretty much a mp5 but better hop larger mag capacity and not forgetting the AUG metal and plastic where it should be. Take down function (Always fun) good hop good ergonomics.
I hardly ever buy new AEG's and have never had any problems with TM internal but I will agree TM armalites need a metal body.

Re: Reliable airsoft gun
Just to back up CA, i have a M15A4 Rifle that is now 6 years old. Its had in excess of 150,000 bb's pumped through it and guess what..... Still going strong. Never spent a single penny on it since i bought it new. Never upgraded or replaced any bits on it and is by far one of the best AEG's ive owned, Great range, Better than good ROF & still putting out around 310 FPS

The sportlines are simply ridiculous, but no I'm refering to CA as a whole. The old CA's were fine, 4/5 years ago ish? Then they decided to change everything and it's been downhill from there. Those yellow pistons especially.... literally cheese. Gearbox tollerances aren't good, hop rubbers poor. Only thing I can say which are decent is the gears.
Hard to find a shop in the ROI that sells them now!

I'm sorry to say I can't see eye to eye with you on that one. The polycarb yellow pistons are fantastic from my experience. The hops aren't fantastic but they;re not poor, and it's nothing a TM rubber can't solve. But for me CA gearboxes are the most fun to work on and have given me the best results.
The only thing I will say is that their highspeed motors are letting me down lately. I've had three now just start to die for no reason. Hence I've switched to using G&P M120s. Great bits of kit.

Re: Reliable airsoft gun
I say save up a little more and get the cheapest Real Sword offering:
Type 56-2.
Much as I rate G&P and KWA, Real Sword is just better.

They don't make a M4 though...
