Re: Impression Guide: US Army Infantryman – Vietnam War
Very strangly Ive found a real picture of a US grunt wearing almost EXACTLY what I want to wear...Spooky....
But yes anyway, heres the picture I found, just thought it would be more helpful,
Hes wearing an M69 Flack Jacket
on top of a standard green shirt,
Plus an M1 helmet, with the Veitnam Era cover,
Plus An M16 mag bandolier,
but hes Not wearing the M56 webbing (you can see there are no pouches nor belt, but he does have the 'lemon' grenades hanging off the pocket of his Flak Vest
I want to have some M65 ontop of my Flak vest but thats the only place where it differs.
Hope that helps too.
I'll put some some pics of my own loadout when it all arrives

Nah I like the army kit, I did the nam army gear and though its cheaper than the USMC gear I think it looks just as good if not better. I'm not an elitist- I like to get my kit right but each to his own.

Ah cheers Dave, yeh I'm just starting Namsofting myself, And im looking this style of a loadout because, one of the things i've noticed from the TOD pics is that everyone is in full uniforms, which is great dont get me wrong, but i do want to spice it up abit, and with weather like that of yesterday, I cant really see myself walking out onto a site in my full US Army Ranger Loadout again, even with the sleeves rolled up, I would return to the safe zone and strip off to my ACU Pants and helmet only, even got a couple of pics here lol.
Best. Birthday. EVER!
:D

P.S. the AKs Full Metal and Full Wood and usually has A mettal Drum Mag full to the brim on it too, so you can imagine how much that weighs! phew!

Re: Impression Guide: US Army Infantryman – Vietnam War
Its a jarhead alright, probably Khe Sahn so wouldnt have his full web set on i guess-probably just grabbed what was close to hand when the incoming rounds started landing!!!!
Unlike some of the WW2 Airborne reenactors who seem to like to carry all sort of crap/bling around and look stupid sometimes less is more.

Re: Impression Guide: US Army Infantryman – Vietnam War
I think the best looking nam kits are either the ultra lightweight ones (belt, canteen, bandoliers and pot), or the super loaded (flak, bandoliers, webbing). I loved my gear, it looked mint but it weighed a sodding ton.

Also Ive just stumbled upon this site, its got A LOT of pics, its almost like a picture diary of a PTR boat crew, from what Ive gathered so far. It even has period songs on ever page :D they even have a page for uniforms they wore whilst the were in country
hope that helps too
(this link is the page with the most links to other pages, not the uniform page)
