Sorry Nickona was a bit vague basically I was trying to say those who wear insignia/patches for realism of loadout do they also use the sa80 aegs with 30 round real caps as well as real weight armour inside their vest/plate carrier if so then yes they are being as real to the guys on the ground as possible and their argument for wearing insignia/patches is valid
Many do yes, however, a lot of people can't carry full plates for obvious reasons of cost and fitness

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
Well, a busy afternoon at work means I'm spending the afternoon trawling a certain auction site.
A Hong Kong trader has put up some "AIRSOFT COMMANDO" shoulder flashes. They should please everyone.
Any opinions expressed by me may not be mine. I don't have opinions anymore. I have a mortgage and teenagers. I used to be a wild, party animal. Now I buy my trousers at M & S.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
my loadout consists of MTP gear, Mk7 Helmet and ospray, i use a WE L85A2 and i wear the flashes of the 2nd Royal Anglian. my loadout is built to mirror current brit gear and i have tried to be as accurate as possible due to OCD and what not
i have friends and family serve in this regiment and i was due to join this regiment and i feel as though it is a mark of respect to my friends and family and i wear it with pride, i dont run round like billy big bollocks claiming that i served (i joined up, passed selection and then smashed myself to bits in a accident before i was due to start basic, army career over! ) i understand why people would be bothered about swanning around the local high street in full battledress but its not the end of the world, i usually will run to a shop or maccy D's on a skirmish day though i usually cover my top half with a plain jacket.
i understand both sides of the arguement, really, but at the end of the day, its a game, football players dont get offended when people wear there shirts to matches, they are worn with pride for the team. why cant airsoft uniforms be the same?

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
Because football strips are another commercial money spinner, the only thing a footballer has had to do to earn their 'uniform' or insignia is to be able to kick a bit of skin around a field.
They don't risk their lives, they don't make sacrifices, all the way to the ultimate sacrifice.
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
very true sir, it was one of the few examples i could think i so prob not the best one to pick lol.
but i was right about the supports having pride in there team and 'colours' even if the players themselves are mostly overpaid numpties
i have actually removed my flash once at a game because of someone got offended by it, we later settled it over a pint and a handshake. other guys i know from the regiment itself are not bothered in the slightest, but i guess its like all things, Bluestone 42 apparently offended alot of people when it was on TV, South park use to offend people and so does family guy, i even know a nurse who hates scrubs as she thinks it shows them in a bad way! yet the rest of the people it dont offend enjoyed it and got on with it. you cant please everyone in life and someone somewhere will always be unhappy with your choice in kit.
i respect people views and will happily remove or cover my marks if it offends. i am there for a good time with friends and fellow players im not looking for a punch up over a patch

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
What about people who do accurate looking load outs? The irony of this post is the thread it is actually in
Is this not the same principle?
Or is it ok to do a load out as long as you don't add a badge? Lol
Plus if someone wanted to wear a UK forces badge, is it any different to wearing a Manchester United top, or a Welsh rugby top? Do you play for Man U, are you gifted and blessed enough to be picked for the Welsh rugby team
No
You're showing your support and are in obvious admiration of these guys...or you wouldn't bother wanting to emulate them.
I agree, if folk go mouthing off they've served and they haven't and are wearing all that stuff, then they need a slap.
If someone wants to emulate someone else, there is no harm in it all.

I've yet to see a football or rugby game where the players risk their lives & limbs while playing, rather than being paid £200k/week to ponce around and roll around on the floor like they've just stepped on an IED when in fact someone put the weight of their little finger on them (in regards to footballers)

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
Dude, I hate football too, but how much soldiers or footballers get paid was not my point. That's a another conversation. And nowhere in my post have I placed slight on what soldiers do/have done.
Hats off to them!!!
My point was aimed at admiration and emulation.
There's nothing wrong in that
Also you can't seperate us dressing in camo or doing loadouts over wearing an actual badge.
That's a little like saying there's a line on what's acceptable or not.
If its wrong to wear a badge then it's also worng to dress up like a soldier or even pretend to be one playing Airsoft
This whole argument doesn't belong here. The irony and hypocrisy of it all is insane!
That said, I can totally understand with a serving Royal Marine whi has lost mates in combat would get pissed at us swanning around in full RM kit, badges and all
But there is still a line. And if its wrong EO wear a badge, it's also wrong to slap on mTP or multicam or even DPM
You're dressing up as a soldier yet you're not one
The issue is with an individuals attitude of who they think they are when they wear that stuff

In all fairness, my tuba playing is coming along nicely. However the only Sally Army uniform I could get is of a Major. And the skirts too big for me.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
I think playing in basic uniform is ok but unless you can prove you have personally earns the right to wear stripes or rank it should not be worn..
I've be collecting militaria since the 80's and have never agreed with buying and selling medals. Re-enactment is different as it depicts a historical moment then it's ok to wear what actually would have been worn by individuals.. It a living history lesson after all.
Airsoft & Dressing up like we do and playing war is one thing but sporting a rank you never earnt is wrong...
I have mates who buy n sell medals but they don't get the pride and privacy thing.. Medals should be kept in the family as history and not be sold for financial gain... The horrendous things serving guys had to go through to earn them shouldn't equate to £15 or £1500...
I believe on Airsoft we can get close enough to the appearance of the real hero's we wish we could be. Without pushing the boundaries of good taste and respect.
I'm sure not everyone will agree with me but rank and responsibility is for respect and is awarded to those who deserve it not those who Shout loudest and carry the biggest wallet...
Rant over........

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
I do know a couple of players who believe that as they have the most money, they have the right to boss others around. Money does not equal rank.
The freakiest thing I have ever seen was a 19 year old wearing Master Aircrewman rank slides, and claiming "I have the right to do that, they're my dad's".
Eh? How's that work? I've got a mate who's dad's a vicar. My mate doesn't wear a dog collar. Mind you, my dad and I both reached the same rank, so... I still wouldn't wear rank. I'm a civilian. Even when I started playing airsoft, I was doing it on my days off while still serving, so being a SNCO at the time didn't count for the square root of dogpooh. I'm a very average middle manager these days. so I don't wear a name badge and a magnetic strip pass to impress anyone, because it wouldn't.
I have to admit that now I've been out a couple of years, my medals are out of the sock drawer, and in a frame on my dining room wall. They're mine, not for sale. Ever. Whether my daughters ever want them is something for them to decide, otherwise, they're going to the Corps museum when I kark it.
Any opinions expressed by me may not be mine. I don't have opinions anymore. I have a mortgage and teenagers. I used to be a wild, party animal. Now I buy my trousers at M & S.

Medals, if I was in to that sort of thing buy them and either donate them to the regi museum or give it back to the family. Some blokes sell their medals because they need the money.
They shouldnt need to, but thats the way the world is these days. I beleive quite a lot of medals displayed are private property. At least they can still be displayed to the close family, as well as the wider regimental family and future generations.
