Re: Heavy Machine Gunners - Purpose?
There is the Beta-mag, it takes 100 rounds but is apparently somewhat fiddly, bulky and generally considered to be not worth the hassle. Plus IIRC it requires lubricating every time you load it and is a nightmare to reload with when empty.

Re: Heavy Machine Gunners - Purpose?

As a mk43 and an ex-249 owner i reckon that the intimidation factor is pretty high on any kind of support weapon. Yes you can put a box mag on an mp5k and do the same job but t.b.h. you do look a bit of a nob, lets be honest would stallone have looked as awesome in rambo wielding a beta-magged mp5k instead of an m60?
So in short support weapon, will intimidatre opposing team from the moment you pull it out in the safe zone to the end of the day. The sight of you covering an area will often make players choose an alternate path rather than risking your hose of white plastic. The firepower boost is definitely noticable if you're used to midcaps as well and as mentioned above for milsim games where beta mags, boxes and often hi-caps are frowned upon a support weapon is your only method of getting sustained fire on a target.
As a support gunner, I don't think they're intimidating to anyone that knows anything about airsoft for the reasons already mentioned. You can only run the same FPS as any other AEG and you can stick a box mag on pretty much any AEG so in terms of firepower, there's absolutely no advantage. But some people do seem to be in awe of certain weapons, such as Rampages Barrett and Desert Eagles. At the end of the day, they can only fire up to the site limit, just like everyone elses weapon. It doesn't matter to me whether someone's firing a MP5 or a M240 at me (and in many cases you wouldn't even be able to see what they've got) if I don't get out of the way I'm going to get hit.

Re: Heavy Machine Gunners - Purpose?
A lot of good views on here guys! Given me different thoughts now. I think Fizzy's last post is spot on, made me think about them differently too! Even If I have the best make M60E4, A JG MP5 with box mag will have the same restrictions and limits!
Thanks Guys

Which is why I prefer Milsim games, where support weapons have to be true support weapons

Re: Heavy Machine Gunners - Purpose?
I have to fully agree with fizzy on that one :D
Even though the site I play at is not a full milsim site they will only allow real life support weapons to be used i.e 249, 60, rpk and mg36 which is great
Only problem I see now is that with all these new chinasoft support guns being made I fear that there will start to be to many at sites

People said the same when Star released a plastic M249, and it didn't happen, people said the same again when the A&K M249 came along, and it didn't happen then either, so I wouldn't worry too much

Thats what everyone said when the M249 was released but did anyone ever see a noticeable influx of support gunners at their site?

Very true lads
Since the a&k 249 there has been a slight increase of them being used at my site and when I spoke to one of the marshals about the support guns and that there maybe to many soon he just said they wuld be limited to 1-2 on each side

Re: Heavy Machine Gunners - Purpose?
i think thats good if they limit the amount of support gunners, because it can be quite an advantage if loads of people have 2500 round box mags!
besides, adds a bit of realism
Formerly 'Waltzinblack' but thought it was time to incorporate my Team callsign into my name

Re: Heavy Machine Gunners - Purpose?
How would you limit it though? What if a player only has an M249 or an M60 (as i know one player who does)? How would you say who can use thier machine gun and who cant?
Why not limit the number of snipers aswell? There are certainly more of them around with guns like the BAR-10 out for sale. Why not say everyone has to use rifles par a few shotgunners, snipers, machine gunners etc? Its a difficult area and one that could quite quickly piss off the average skirmisher. Personally i think they should be able to use what you want, unless your playing in a set mil-sim game or such, where there are clear restrictions. The one thing i dont really like is when guys stick a box mag on an M16/AK/whatever and still want to use it as one, i think box mags should be stick on machine guns, or such a rule
G&G TR15 Raider XL, CA G36K, G&G MP5A4, Cyma Thompson, APS AKS-74U, Custom TM Uzi, DE M56, WE Nighthawk X2, Cyma Glock 18C
RD Customs MG42, The Bone Cannon And Project Balderdash.
If you aren't laughing, you're doing it wrong.

Sorry confusing me here, is that 600 rounds per man, or 600 round mag limits

and thats the idea of the gun to strike fear into the opposition
Ever been shot with a hot gun? My mate had a got M14 running at 380fps (stock ACM gun, not upgraded to fire hot), and believe me, you can tell the difference. What would normally be a small sting on the head leaves a welt, and any hits on the body f*cking cane. So having a 400fps gun shooting full auto, even with a 30m engagmement rule, is just insane, somebody's going to get really hurt.
